Not bad, but no Mac 2010-03-02 After the sudden death of my beloved G4 iMac, I was forced to go down the PC route and with only a limited budget, opted for this machine. As per usual, the Amazon delivery was superb (arrived within 24 hrs) and the thing was set up within 15 minutes. I read on here that you need to have a couple of DVD's handy to back up the programme files so about an hour or so later I was fully backed up and on the internet. The machine itself comes well packaged and the cover looks nice in a deep gloss navy blue. The numerical keypad is a nice touch too. It boots up fairly quickly and, once it has installed the necessary updates, runs at a good speed. For a dual core machine with 4 gig of RAM I expected it to run like lightening - it's not bad but could run quicker, especially with multiple applications open. Windows 7 isn't too bad at all - it looks alot like OSX in some respects but doesn't quite match it for complete useability. As a 'budget alternaitive' to OSX you can live with it. The main drawback to this machine is its connectivity. I knew this when I bought the machine, but I wish I now went for one with more USB ports, and a HDMI output would've been nice too. Overall, this machine does what it says on the tin. Time will tell if it remains as reliable as it is right now but so long as I stay on top of the anti-virus software i'm hoping its performance wont diminish and this won't be a problem.
Great allrounder, easy set up 2010-02-27 I have had the laptop for about 4 weeks and nothing at all has gone wrong so far. Getting it out the box to finishing set up takes hardly any time at all, really simple even for me. To set it up all I had to do was connect it to my wireless at home with the key code and that was it. I am 17 years old so wanted a laptop that was fast and had loads of memory for pictures etc. It has a huge hard drive which I really liked. Everything is where you would expect to find it, it is nice having a number keypad too. I dont care the slightest about no webcam as I would never need one anyway. It only takes about a minute to turn on and off which is helpful, doesnt take ages to load or connect to the internet, does it automatically in a few seconds. Plays movies really well, nice wide screen and bright display. Sound is loud enough for music in a whole room etc, i never need it on full blast. Looks really nice too, not bulky or ugly at all with smooth sleek lines. The only thing I would say about it is that the battery isnt very long at all, although as mine is new i suppose you would need to run it down a few times, and it is getting longer each time i use it. The first time i used it it only lasted less than an hour, but when i need it im always near a plug anyway. The pictures dont illustrate that the laptop is not very tall but is quite wide, so its not as square as a normal computer, this means that you have to scroll down and up a lot and things dont always fit all on the screen but this doesnt matter much. It is not very heavy, but ive never had a laptop before so cant really compare. PS- its very dark blue shiny cover, not black as it looks in the picture, but i like this. Overall I love my new laptop and would highly recommend this one.
acer spot on 2010-02-25 The Acer Aspire 5532 really is a good buy , maybe you are looking for webcam which this has nt got, but for value you would be hard pushed to beat this.
My new laptop 2010-02-19 If you're buying this laptop one thing you need to know is there's no webcam, there's a glass thing where a webcam should be, but only certain models have it actually in there. That doesn't really bother me as I already have a cam, and they're cheap to buy anyway. The laptop is fast, and windows 7 is pretty cool. There's a mcafee trial that comes free which is pretty useful, as is the office trial, Overall it's just great, there's really nothing wrong with it. I didn't really want an acer, but that's just me being silly. Loads of people have them, and it looks really nice, it's got a nice, deep blue shiny lid. Also one review says you have to make backup disks when you first start it. You don't. You can, but you don't have to. It asks you to though, helpfully, so you're reminded that even thoguh you're lazy, it would be a good idea. Runs fast, looks nice, is cheap. Not much more to say
Computer Review. 2010-02-13 This Computer seems to be excellent so far and I look forward to many happy hours in using its many and varied functions. My previous Computer was an Acer and it gave good service throughout.
