please steer clear of this product. 2010-08-06 unfortunately my last laptop broke on my and i was impatient about it and went out and bought the best looking cheap laptop i could find. i knew acer had a good reputation and it looked solid and it was a very good price so i went for this.. but problems started as soon as i turned it on. basicly this comes with windows vista but does NOT have anywhere near high enough hardwear specs to run it. thats the main problem. so the computer runs extremely slow, even with simple things. an mp3 was tasking for it. that is no exaggeration. now i needed to use the computer to run photoshop to do my work on and that was just out of the question, it run stupidly slow with that open. anyway, i came to the conclusion that this was no problem, and i would be able to install windows XP and that would suit the computer much better and it would run at good speeds. this is where the real headache begins. ACER designed the computer to only run on vista and it is a massive chore to install XP on it, im not a computer technician so it took me a few days of following a complex guide online before i actually did it. and then after that as it is not designed to run on xp you have to reinstall all the drivers, and some of them may end up not working properly all together. wireless internet and the computers fan being the main ones. the fan happened for me. ive tried everyway possible sugesstion on how to fix it but nothing ever worked. the computer will run in the high tempatures and then overheat and shut down, because the fan does not work. i managed to buy a fan stand for it so i could actually use the computer but even then it still ran to high temparatures. a few days ago the thing packed up entirely. i have to strongly suggest to anyone thinking of buying this product that they change their minds about that. in my opinion it is faulty out of the box and i have no idea what the people at acer were thinking when they were testing this one..
Nice laptop, poor service from FoneStop Ltd. 2010-07-21 The laptop arrived well packaged and in the time frame stated. When I opened the invoice I found that these laptops are EX-DISPLAY not new as advertised. Having said that the laptop was in excellent unused condition. Then I looked for the manual and instead of finding a brochure, all I found was a photocopy, of which half of the 'manual' was missing, it stopped at page 19 and re-started at page 43! When I wrote to FoneStop about this they replied by email a few hours later, this is their letter cut and pasted from the email... "The item is described as ex display as the box has been opened and the item handled so we have to describe it as such. It has not actually been on display in a shop. This was stated in the item comments and should be visible before purchase and the item has been discounted for this. The warranty is valid from the purchase date with the manufacturer for 12 mths and your printed receipt will validate this if an issue arises. The manual may have been mislaid hence the photocopy but a pdf along with all matter of resources can be viewed or downloaded at the ACER website. The item in all instances should work perfectly and we are sorry if our listing caused any confusion." 1. This item was NOT advertised as ex-display, I've checked and I still cannot any reference to this. 2. Instead of offering to send out a manual, their response is to direct me to the acer website. Yes, the product is not expensive, that's all I wanted - a basic laptop. What I didn't expect was the customer service to be even cheaper.
good times do not last 2010-01-20 MY ACER 5315 IS NOW TWO YEARS OLD. ALL WENT WELL FOR 18 MONTHS THEN CD ROM DRIVE GAVE UP.HAD TO BUY EXTERNAL H/DRIVE. FOR THE LAST 6 WEEKS SCREEN KEEPS FLICKERING AND SHUTTING DOWN.MY FREIND HAS SAME MODEL AND IS ON THIRD POWER CABLE. ACER WANT £54.OO JUST TO LOOK AT IT AND WILL THEN TELL YOU HOW MUCH IT WILL COST TO REPAIR. I THINK NOT!!! A FRIEND OF MINE WHO IS INTO COMPUTERS SAYS HE NEVER HAS TO REPAIR TOSHIBA LAPTOPS.I SHALL SHOP ELSEWHERE NEXT TIME. 13/07/2010...update touchpad has now stopped working. did the same on my fathers acer. have bought toshiba laptop.so far its great.
Happy with purchase 2010-01-02 I bought this lap top for a present for my step daughter, she is really happy with it and there have been no problems.
